Workshops


Sketch A Day offers workshops online as well as in-person to provide high quality trainings for teams, students and individuals looking for training in:

  1. Visual Communication - Sketching, Rendering, Ideation

  2. Storytelling and storyboarding - User Experience, Concept Planning

  3. Design Strategy - Service Design, Design in business

Workshops vary in duration. Typically in-person workshops take anywhere from 3 to 6 hours. Occasionally workshops may be hosted in an all day 8 hour format at an additional cost. If the group size is larger, hands on demonstrations are given with the intent that participants may follow along with limited hands on feedback or interaction with Spencer. A large group is defined as 20 or more participants.

However, if the group size is smaller, workshop presentation may be customized and tailored for a more hands on approach to the workshop. A small group is defined by 19 or fewer participants.

Lecture

Workshops kick off with a 30-40 minute lecture on visual communication that includes discussion and examples of approaches to presenting concepts that is easy to understand.

Demo

Next, demonstrations are provided to the group that cater to the skill levels of attendees and cover topics that may be applicable to leveling up your group or team’s skillset

Hands On

With smaller groups, hands on training may be provided for a more involved tutoring experience.

Webinar

Alternatively, workshops are offered online in 1-hour segments at a fixed cost per hour to your group. No limit on participants.

Spencer Nugent, founder of Sketch-A-Day.com and  IDSKETCHING.COM, has been providing free, high quality online design sketching tutorial content and on-site sketch workshops since 2008. He has created an extensive online network and following within the Industrial Design community and continues to connect with students and design professionals via his online properties..

His professional experience includes working at General Motors in Warren, Michigan, San Francisco based design firm Astro Studios, heading up his own design consultancy, Studio Tminus where he worked with several clients primarily in the consumer electronics and apparel industries. Spencer has worked with brands such as Microsoft, Intel, Hewlett Packard, BodyGlove, Adidas, Verifone, Kyocera Altec Lansing, Hasbro, Dell, Tupperware, Motorola, and Vivint Smart Home.

Spencer has led workshops for many higher educational institutions and corporate clients including designers at Adidas HQ, Herzogenaurach Germany, Apple Retail, Adobe MAX and SC Johnson Wax.

Most recently, Spencer has been running his design lab, 5050.design where half his time is dedicated to personal projects and the other to client work.
