OFFSITE | Sketching II
Materials
Following is a list of recommended materials for the 10-week offsite course. If you have any questions, please let me know in slack channel so others may benefit from answers.
Pens & Pencils
For pens, I recommend a felt pen that doesn’t bleed with marker application. My go-to is a Papermate Flair, however feel free to check out others mentioned here - https://www.sketch-a-day.com/pens
For pencils, I recommend black Prismacolor Premier or something similar (waxy with thick, soft lead, not graphite). For more info - https://www.sketch-a-day.com/pencils
Markers
Minimum Marker Set
3 Gray with 20-30% Spread in Value
One set of color in same color family (e.g. Orange) - 3 with 20-30% Spread in Value
Black Marker or Sharpie
Copic Marker Color System
Ohuhu Marker Color Test
Note on Marker Colors:
Color selection with markers can be somewhat tricky. When you're picking colors for your markers, you have to think about what it is you're using them for. Are you going to be drawing people, or are you going to be drawing products?
When selecting colors on a budget, you really only need 3 to 5 markers with a 20% difference in value for Mark in a marker. Unless you're a professional like myself who does illustrations with markers as commissions, you likely don't need a FULL SET of markers ranging in color, hue, saturation and value.
Some marker brands have colors labeled by name, others by name and the number. Spend some time examining the markers that you use, because the systems for identifying colors are likely different from each other.
Recommended: Copic Brand | Good alternative: OHUHU Brand

Paper
You’ll need printer paper and marker paper. We’ll be using printer paper for general sketching and marker paper for presentation sketching. Tracing paper is optional. For more info on paper types, check out https://www.sketch-a-day.com/paper
